Thanks for your time yesterday at the all-LIS staff meeting. I know that your time is an extremely valuable resource , and I appreciate that you took time away from other pressing work to learn a little bit about what the web team is doing.
I have listed below the link to the Information Architecture site – I hope you’ll take a closer look.
LIS Website
It is a work in progress and we welcome your thoughts and ideas. You best know who your users are – and your feedback will help build a fabulous place for our users to discover LIS and all the resources and services we provide. Many thanks to those of you who filled out comment cards and asked questions at the meeting. We will take your comments and questions to heart and carefully evaluate them as we further develop and test the usability of the site.

We have some very exciting web tools and platforms to work with in developing the site. We hope that the intersection of multiple platforms on the LIS web site will give our users the best possible experience in navigating and accessing our services and resources – and also give LIS a chance to feature the great work we do.

ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center

Planning a trip to the ECHO Center? Be sure to stop by the Main Library Circ Desk to borrow the Library Echo Pass. Show the pass to the Echo Front Desk and up to 2 adults and 3 youths will be admitted for just $2 each.
Check out the Echo Center here.
ECHO is open year round, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m., except Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve & Day.

Wanted – LIS Night Owls

LIS will once again be offering 24/7 to our students 11/29 – 12/12.
Here is your opportunity to experience the Main Library at night!
Interested in flexing your schedule and adding a little excitement to your work week? Working nights instead of your usual ho-hum day schedule?
If so, check with your supervisor and be in touch with your availability.
The shifts are 12 midnight – 4 am and 4 am – 8 am. All nighters also welcome.
The deadline for letting me know is Thursday 11/12.
Movies, music, snacks and caffeine will be available.

Team Charge
To create a brand new LIS web presence that has the following characteristics: is easy to find (things,) is easy to use, is easy to maintain, is user centric, has more self-service functionality.

Team Priorities
Involve end users: develop & test [Beta test 11/09, Public beta test 12/09, Public launch 1/04/10]
Develop LIS staff workflow, content management, protocol procedures & apply to new web presence [Test 11/09, In place 12/09]
Assess/evaluate new LIS web presence ( involve end users) [April 2010 & ongoing]

Team Vision
We are creating a web site with intuitive navigation, easy access to services and resources, inviting interfaces, and a workflow that allows simple maintenance.

Just add to that page, rather than create a new page? And link to some existing content and some of the content that will be created by the CT team – to avoid duplicating content?)

Staff Development on a Shoestring Conference

Bryan Carson and I recently presented our Fall ‘08 Tasty Tech Tidbits series at the Dartmouth College 2009 October Conference
We used a new web presentation tool called Prezi (thanks Joe A!) to deliver our talk. Our presentation was one of several for the 1-day conference – and it was nice to see the friendly faces of Brenda, Terry, Joy and Karen (spouse of Mike) Lynch in the audience. All presentations are now posted on the Dartmouth Conference site. Check it out – there are some interesting ideas – including using Jing to develop tutorials and a learning 2.0 program using the 23 Things concept.
