Language Schools Video Contest- “Life Doesn’t Come with Subtitles”

The Language Schools administration invites all summer 2008 Language Schools students to submit videos around the theme of “Life Doesn’t Come with Subtitles.”

Videos should approach this theme from context of the Language Schools experience, showing how it allows students to actually get inside a culture and live in that language – without the barrier of subtitles.

Library and Information Services has a small number of video cameras that can be checked out for four hours, as well as all the necessary editing material to produce a video. Each Language School also has a video camera. Please talk with your coordinator or bilingual assistant about using the cameras.

Prizes:

1st Place: $1,000

2nd Place: $500

3rd Place: $250

Rules:

· Submissions must be in the target language. Breaking the Language Pledge will result in disqualification.

· Submissions must come from full-time Language School students. Groups are permitted, but all members must be enrolled in a Language School.

· Submissions must be at least 90 seconds long but no longer than 3.5 minutes.

· Videos must be submitted in the form of a YouTube link to jnorthru@middlebury.edu. It will then be posted on the specific School’s category on this blog.

· Each School will vote on the videos submitted in that language and the video with the most votes in that School will move to the final round.

· The ten videos will be reviewed by a panel from the LS administration, which will choose the winners.

· Please make sure all participants have signed the LS release form. This form can be downloaded from the contest site. Most students have signed this form and should only be used for individuals who have not already done so.

How it works:

Students should submit videos in the form of a YouTube link to jnorthru@middlebury.edu by 11:59 pm EST, Aug 6th 2008. Voting will commence at 12:00 am EST, Aug 7th 2008. Voting will last two weeks, at which point the video with the most votes in each School will be selected to move to the final round. Voting will take place on this blog and each student in a School will be able to vote only once. Middlebury retains the rights to use the content of the videos submitted in promotional material and display them on the Middlebury.edu website.
