In addition, we have integrated this service with our web platforms- the college CMS, Segue, WordPress and Mediawiki. Log into your site, blog or wiki and manage your media, allowing you to add the media to a page.

Is there ONE place that I can go to to see videos created by people at Middlebury? In answer to this question, we have been working with Communications, and are now beta-launching MIDDTube, a place where we can pull together video from many places, whether the video is hosted by MIDDMedia, YouTube, or any other service.

Private Only allows the owner of a blog to require a login for anyone to view their blog.

WP-Stats will allow a blog owner to view user activity on their blog.

Ian McBride recommended and tested cForms, a plugin that allows a blog owner to create and embed forms in their blog, and have the submissions sent to the owner via email.

A plugin must be activated so that it can be used on your Middlebury blog. To do this, got to the PLUGINS page (the link is in the upper right-hand side) and click on the Activate link.

If you would like your blog listed on MiddBlogs, please email Joe at jantonio@middlebury.edu.

Robyn Tendai-Whyte and I just ran GeoPress and GeoMashup through the paces today. Both performed beautifully after a bit of massaging (and reading the directions!) Here are a few tips that we found helpful for anyone at Middlebury who would like to geo-locate their blog.

GeoPress

This plugin will allow you to take any post and add a Google map with a stick pin location. This is a nice feature for bloggers who are traveling, or who would like to give geographic location to a historical reference.

To use this plugin-

Click on the “Plugins” link in the upper right hand corner of your blog’s Dashboard.

Click the “Activate” link to the right of the GeoPress plugin.

Click on the GeoPress tab, just under the name of your blog in the upper-left.

Get a GoogleMaps Key and paste it next to GoogleMaps Key.

Get a Yahoo AppID and paste it next to Yahoo AppID.

Click on the UPDATE OPTIONS button.

When you write a new post, scroll down to LOCATION.

Type in an address and click on the “Geocode” link.

Save and Publish your post.

The map will appear under your post with the location marked.

GeoMashup

GeoMashup works in a different way. It will take all posts that have a location added, and create one map on a single page with a stick pin for every location.

To use this plugin-

Click on the “Plugins” link in the upper right hand corner of your blog’s Dashboard.

Click the “Activate” link to the right of the GeoMashup plugin.

Click on the Settings tab in the upper-right.

Click on the “Geo Mashup” tab.

Get a GoogleMaps Key and paste it next to GoogleMaps Key. If you are using GeoPress, you may use the same Key (NOTE: Your key needs to be registered to your blog site: http://blogs.middlebury.edu/[name of my blog])

Choose the page where you would like the map to appear.

Click on the UPDATE OPTIONS button.

In the page you selected, add <!--GeoMashup--> in the content.

When you write a new post, scroll down to LOCATION. If GeoPress is activated, this will be the second map.

Type in an address and hit return. You will see a pin with your location.

Save and Publish your post.

The page you selected will now have one map with every location on it. Each location will be labeled with the name of the post.

But there is a way to get around it.

 1. Create an iMovie project, if you haven’t already.
2. Close iMovie.
3. Right-click on the project file and choose “Show Package Contents.”
4. Browse to the Media folder.
5. Place your clips in the folder.
6. Open your iMovie project.
7. Click the VIEW TRASH button.
8. Drag your clips to the clips pane.

I’ve been able to do this with .mov, .dv and .mpg.
