Did you know that the best way to interview for jobs with top employers who don’t come to campus is to participate in an Off-Campus Interview Day.

This year’s Capital Consortium (CapCon) will happen in Washington DC on February 5, 2010. Middlebury, Colgate, Connecticut College, Smith, Trinity, Tufts and Wesleyan all participate in CapCon.

Prior to the interview day, students submit required application materials to participating employers via the Capcon Website. You can review employer job descriptions and required application materials via the Capcon Website at http://capcon.experience.com/er/security/login.jsp. The employers in turn select students to interview on the day of the event. Applications for CapCon are due on 1/5/2010.

This year there are many employers participating who work in the common good, including the  Urban Institute, which researches social and economic problems, Child Trends, which is dedicated to improving the lives of children and their families, IFC International, an international environmental consulting firm, the EPA, paralegal jobs, secondary school teaching jobs and more!

If you are a Senior be on the lookout for an email from Career Services with pertinent information on how to access the CapCon jobs site.

Now that you are on break, don’t miss out on these great opportunities that we’ve identified in MOJO.  Dust off your resumes and cover letters and submit your applications as soon as possible.  Don’t wait until the very last moment to apply.

Please read the descriptions and locations carefully. You may apply for one placement only, so choose the one that best matches your experience, qualifications and interests.

Opportunities for 2010 are as follows:

While many of you are on break from Middelbury, I am sitting in my office on campus in Vermont watching the UN Climate Conference LIVE in Copenhagen.  Right now, Jamie Henn ‘07, 350.org coordinator, is answering questions from the audience and press about what’s next after COP15.  I also got to watch current Midd student, Ben Wessel ‘10, earlier at a different panel discussion talking about synergies with youth from China.  Another Midd siting – here, Kelly Blynn ‘07, 350.org coordinator, dressed up in a penguin outfit (I think that might also be Emily Adler ‘07 disguised as one of the flock as well) singing “It’s Getting Hot in Here!” on the BBC Report.

Amazing stuff.  Too bad the popular press keeps chasing the negative (i.e. the protest arrests) versus what’s going on inside the halls!

Follow history unfolding all this week at: http://theuptake.org/en/.

So incredible…our little corner of Vermont is making lots of heat inside (and outside)!

Do you know what green companies are in your area? As I have mentioned in the past, Green Career Central contains some great tips, but their post on maps has to be one of their best.

One of their links, Clean Tech Startups, is a google map which shows where various clean tech startups are around the world. It not only shows you who and where each company is, but it differentiates them by industry.

Green Career Central also links to the Environmental Defense Fund’s maps of renewable energy and energy efficiency companies in manufacturing states.

Referring back to my earlier post Opportunities in Education, I found a few problems in the file Education Opportunities and Resources.pdf

So, I have gone through and made sure all of the descriptions can be seen, but most importantly, the links will only work correctly if you copy and paste them into your browser window.

That said, here is the revised copy of Education Opportunities and Resources.

Happy Job and Internship Hunting!

You may have heard whispers of it from around the water cooler, or perhaps they were persuasive yells from people outside Proctor Dining Hall. Well, what you heard is true. The United Nations Climate Change Conference is happening from December 7th to December 18th in Copenhagen.

What does Green Career Central say you should do to prepare?

“The best thing you can do at this juncture is to be aware of the issues. Pay attention to the news. Listen for indications of how various decisions are likely to impact your target industry. Invest some time in understanding the issues at hand.”

Why is it important to come together and make a deal for the future? Check out this fact sheet for a Copenhagen deal as published by the United Nations Climate Change Conference. It is a great way to clue into the issues at hand.
