Shawna Shapiro–Tutors as Educators–Not Editors

October 23rd, 2009 by Mary Ellen Bertolini

We had a great session with Shawna Shapiro last Thursday.  Thanks to the peer writing tutors and the foreign language tutors who attended and helped make it a success!  For those of you who could not make the session, I’m uploading Shawna’s handout from the session: PWT_Workshop_Oct22

Ms. Shapiro will be speaking this week at the Robert A. Jones ‘59 House. Trained PWTs can use this talk as one makeup session.

Overland Information Session

Thursday, Nov 5, 2009 at 6pm, MBH220
We are looking for exceptional college students to lead our writing programs this summer. The Overland Summer Writing Program and the Overland College Essay Program, based in Williamstown, Massachusetts help high school students from across the country develop as writers in an Overland setting. The programs consist of classroom workshops each morning, and afternoon hikes or bike rides in the Berkshires. Leaders and students live on the Williams College campus during the week and some groups camp and raft on the weekends. An experienced English teacher works collaboratively with Overland leaders to challenge and engage student in the classroom. Summer Writing and College Essay Program leaders are typically English majors in their junior or senior year. We seek candidates who are writing tutors or who have worked in college writing centers. Please visit our website for more information about these programs.

Please contact jonathan@overlandprograms.com if you plan to attend our information session or to set up an in-person interview during our campus visit. Other leadership positions are also available at Overland. For further information about Overland programs and leadership opportunities, to download the application, or to sign up for our leader hiring updates, please visit www.overlandprograms.com/leaders.
