Portfolio and Exit Interview Process

Dear International Policy Students,

Your faculty convened over the January Winterim to discuss the portfolio review and exit interview process that took place this past fall. Based upon lessons learned from last semester, the faculty voted to eliminate the exit interview requirement for graduation. All students graduating in May 2009 and later are NOT required to undergo an exit interview prior to graduation.

All MA-level International Policy students ARE still required to complete a portfolio in order to graduate from the Institute. The portfolio requirements have been streamlined in order to make the process easier for both students and faculty. Your faculty and staff take the portfolio very seriously. We will work with you to ensure that your portfolio development process is an enriching learning experience, and that your portfolio is a useful tool for life-long learning and career marketing. Your portfolio is ultimately, though, your responsibility to complete.

For those of you graduating this May, the portfolio review dates issued in December still apply:

Friday, March 27
Friday, April 10
Friday, April 24

If you have not already done so, please let your faculty advisor know by which date you would like to be reviewed. These dates were assigned in order to give you enough time to make changes and have your portfolio re-reviewed if required before the end of the semester. You may, though, in conjunction with your faculty advisor, decide upon a different review date than those listed above.

Revised guidelines, core competency lists, checklists, and guidance on the language component of your portfolio can all be found on the Moodle Advising site. Please review all of these documents prior to emailing the staff or your faculty advisor about the portfolio.

If you have done a significant amount of work on your portfolio and would like to continue using the format first presented in the original guidelines, that’s fine. We as that you please take a look at the revised guidelines anyway, as they may provide clarification of the process that was not available earlier.

Finally, we will once again be holding Portfolio sessions throughout the semester. Dates are posted to the Master Events Calendar on the front page of the Moodle site.
