This is indeed a great event - I participated in it last year, and encourage others who love the TAM to do so as well.

Thanks for the detailed description of the Trail Around Middlebury! I thought you all might be interested in a fun event with prizes and freebies that is taking place at 10 am on Sunday, Sept. 27th, which is the TAM Trek, the major fundraiser for TAM trail maintenance. Even though trail maintenance is carried out primarily by volunteers, there are expenses for materials, mowing, and supplies. More information, including a registration brochure and pledge form, is available at www.maltvt.org by clicking on the TAM trail button.--Katherine, Middlebury Area Land Trust volunteer

Jeff, you're a professor on campus right? Ever want to run with a student? I'm training for the VT 50 (50k not 50 mile) and have been doing loads of local trail training. Mostly TAM as I can hop right on it from campus. I've been mountain biking at most of the places you've listed in the Green Mountains too. I'd love to get out on one of these runs with you if you're not opposed to a fellow runner joining. I totally understand if these are your personal retreats, I do most of my running solo. I'm on campus already (summer job) and have some considerable runs ahead of me. Let me know if you're interested! Alex

I remember biking over the Middlebury Pass in bike races in the 1970's - it was brutal.
The Garmin wrist GPS watches you discuss are awesome technology, some of the most advanced available anywhere. What I really like is the wireless transfer of data to my laptop and the ability to track my performance on similar courses on different days.
